Aquatic Physiotherapy

Aquatic Physiotherapy, also known as hydrotherapy, is a specialised form of therapy that takes place in a heated pool, designed to provide a supportive and low-impact environment for children to improve their physical abilities. At Grass Roots Paediatric Development Centre, our aquatic physiotherapy service is available for children of all ages, including those with physical, neurological, or developmental challenges. The buoyancy and warmth of the water offer a unique therapeutic environment, reducing the strain on joints and muscles while enhancing movement and coordination.

Our experienced aquatic physiotherapists work closely with children who may have conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, developmental delays, and sensory processing disorders. The water environment helps children develop strength, flexibility, and balance in a way that is enjoyable and less stressful than traditional physiotherapy sessions on land.

Benefits:

Aquatic physiotherapy offers numerous benefits that extend beyond traditional physiotherapy. The resistance and support provided by water allow children to improve their range of motion, muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance in a low-impact setting. The warmth of the water helps to relax muscles, reduce pain, and improve circulation, making it an excellent option for children with chronic pain or tight muscles. Additionally, the buoyancy of the water reduces the strain on the body, allowing children to perform exercises that may be difficult on land.

This therapy also provides a sensory experience, making it particularly beneficial for children with sensory processing difficulties, helping them to regulate and respond more effectively to sensory stimuli. For children with neurological conditions, the water offers a safe and supportive space to work on balance, coordination, and motor planning.

How It Helps:

By addressing physical impairments and developmental concerns early on, paediatric physiotherapy plays a key role in helping children overcome obstacles to their growth and development.
